What is EcoVadis?

EcoVadis is an internationally recognised sustainability rating platform that can help you show your sustainability performance compared to other assessed companies worldwide. To join EcoVadis, you need to fill in an extensive assessment that looks at four main areas: environment, labour & human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Within EcoVadis you can receive a Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum medal based on your EcoVadis score.

More than 175,000 companies across 180+ countries have been rated through the platform, using a methodology built on international standards such as the UN Global Compact, GRI and ISO 26000. Good to know: an EcoVadis rating is not a certification like ISO. It rates how well you can demonstrate your sustainability management: your policies, your actions and your results.

Many larger companies now ask their suppliers to share an EcoVadis score as part of doing business together. For SMEs, the process can sometimes feel complex, because you need the right policies, documents, and data in place. With our practical support, it becomes much more manageable and can even help strengthen your business. Baseline

We start with a baseline session to understand where your organisation stands today, what is already in place, and what is still needed to achieve the EcoVadis score you are aiming for.

Action plan

Based on the gaps we identify, we create a practical action plan to get your organisation ready for EcoVadis, including involving the right people internally from the start.

Implementation

We support you in putting everything in place, from policies and processes to training and documentation. To avoid wasting time reinventing the wheel, we work as much as possible with proven templates and standards, so the focus stays on implementation and real impact.

Assessment

Once the questionnaire is submitted, EcoVadis analysts review your answers and supporting documents against international sustainability standards to determine your final score and rating.

How does the EcoVadis assessment work?

You complete a questionnaire tailored to your industry, company size and locations, and upload evidence for every answer: policies, procedures, KPIs and reports. EcoVadis analysts verify your documentation and combine it with external sources through their 360° Watch, which screens news and public information about your company. Your scorecard typically follows 6 to 8 weeks after submission.

Your score runs from 0 to 100 and reflects your performance across the four themes. Medals are awarded based on your percentile rank compared to all companies rated worldwide in the past 12 months, so there is no fixed point threshold anymore. To qualify for any medal, no theme can score below 30.

Not at medal level yet? The Committed badge (score 45+) and Fast Mover badge (score 34-44 with strong improvement) recognise progress along the way. One thing many companies underestimate: the questionnaire itself isn’t the hard part. Collecting and organising the evidence is where the real work sits, especially if your sustainability efforts exist in practice but aren’t documented yet.

Frequently asked questions about EcoVadis

: No. An EcoVadis medal is a rating, not an official certification like ISO 14001. It shows how your sustainability management compares to other assessed companies, rather than certifying that you meet a fixed standard. That distinction matters when clients ask for “the EcoVadis label”: you share a scorecard, not a certificate.
: There is no fixed score anymore. Medals are based on your percentile rank among all companies rated in the past 12 months: Bronze requires the top 35%, Silver the top 15%, Gold the top 5% and Platinum the top 1%. In addition, none of the four themes can score below 30 points.
: Costs consist of three parts: the EcoVadis subscription (which depends on your company size and country), internal hours, and optional external support. In practice, internal hours are often the largest cost. Collecting and formalising evidence takes more time than most companies expect, so good preparation keeps that investment manageable.
: An EcoVadis scorecard, medal or badge is valid for 12 months from publication. After that, you go through a reassessment to keep your rating active, which is also your chance to improve your score year over year.
: Make your policies, actions and results demonstrable. The biggest gains usually sit in documenting what you already do: formalising existing practices into policies, recording trainings, and measuring results. Start with the improvement areas on your scorecard and tackle the themes with the lowest scores first.
: EcoVadis is a benchmark rating, mainly used within supply chains to compare suppliers. B Corp is a certification that assesses your entire company against a fixed standard and embeds impact in your business model. Many companies use EcoVadis for client requirements and B Corp as their broader sustainability framework.
