The anti-greenwashing guide

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – three important concepts. But what’s the difference between them?
Diversity is being invited to the party, equity is having access to the dance floor, and inclusion is being asked to dance.
Diversity is about the differences between people. In the workplace, it means understanding and valuing different identities, such as culture, gender, age, religion, abilities, sexual orientation, and neurodiversity. It also includes differences in education, experience, skills, and knowledge. Greater diversity brings a broader mix of people, encourages learning from one another, and opens the door to new perspectives.
Equity is about fairness, taking individual needs into account. Everyone is unique and faces different circumstances. For example, imagine a race between an amateur and a professional runner: giving the amateur a small head start creates a fairer chance. Equity isn’t about starting at the same point but ensuring everyone has what they need to achieve a fair outcome.
Inclusion is about participation and feeling welcome. It’s about addressing differences and power dynamics. Inclusion makes diversity work. In the workplace, it means creating an environment where everyone feels respected and can collaborate. Inclusion removes barriers and discrimination, ensuring every voice is heard and working toward a shared goal.
